Ecology

This species is found solitary in shallow-water lagoons and on fringe- and outer reefs to depths of at least 15m to approximately 30m. It is known to wedge its basal disc in crevices in deep hollows or between coral debris or coral blocks, which it will completely and rapidly retract into when disturbed1,2. It was found hiding in a large crack of a piece of rubble from the southern reef crest of Heron Island Reef.
